Arrive at the airport in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. Your holiday will begin with a tour of this remote city, one of the few in the world that can only be accessed by either air or by sea. Another accolade for the city is that it is one of the few cities in the world where you cannot visibly see the horizon from any point because it is surrounded by mountains and volcanoes. You will experience for yourself what it feels like to be surrounded by what UNESCO has said is “one of the most outstanding volcanic regions in the world.” A city that has developed in a landscape that doesn’t have any roads in or out and that is surrounded by a ring of volcanoes is definitely a city worth exploring! After your tour of the memorable and historical places within the city, you will visit the stunning and remote Beach of Khalaktyrsky where you can dip your toes in the Pacific Ocean or just take in its incredible fresh air and stunning energy. Our next journey is to the village of Paratunka which is approximately 45 mins away and where we will stay for the night, enjoying the first of our dips in a thermal water pool.
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast and take the opportunity to soak in the quiet remote wilderness and the thermal water pool of the hotel before your approximate 11:00am departure from the hotel. Today we will travel north in the interior of Kamchatka to the village of Milkovo which is about 5 hours away. En route you can enjoy lunch in a local cafe, enjoying the real taste of local authentic Kamchatkan cuisine. We aim to arrive at the hotel around 4pm. After check in you can relax, stretch your legs or rest until your dinner in the evening.
After an early breakfast, you will check out and transfer to Kozyrevsk village which is where you will take your Helicopter flight to Dvukhyrtochnoye lake from. Depending on the weather you will get incredible views of both Alney and Chashakondzha volcanoes. After your Helicopter flight you will check into your accommodation for the next two nights in rustic, rural wooden cabins deep in the heart of the Kamchatka by the Dvukhyurtochnoye Lake. Of the 10,000 to 14,000 brown bears that live in Kamchatka, roughly 500 of them come to Dvukhyurtochnoye Lake each year to feast on the thousands of sock eye salmon in the lake before their winter hibernation. They say there are so much Salmon in the waters that you can fish them with your bare hands! Today you can once again enjoy bathing in the hot springs and after lunch you will begin your exploration of the surrounding area including Bear watching!
Today after breakfast you will continue your observation of the Brown bears of Kamchatka as their stock up before their winter hibernation. You can also try your hand at some salmon fishing, either with hands or rods!! Once again you can enjoy relaxing in the healing hot springs before tasting some red caviar and enjoying your freshly caught fish. Today, along with the rest of this trip is a true experience in the wild, rugged, wilderness of one of the most remote regions in the world.
Following breakfast you can enjoy a final morning observing and watching the bears in their true, natural habitat before taking your return Helicopter flight from Kozyrevsk Village, over views of Alney and Chashakondzha Volcanoes and their hardened, frozen lava flows and back to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. This incredibly remote city may even seem loud and busy after the quietness and wilderness of the past few days.
Today the day is left free for you to decide how to spend it. Your optional choices could be another helicopter flight excursion, this time to the Valley of the Geysers and Uzon Caldera. The Valley of the Geysers are the second largest Geyser field in the world and the Uzon Caldera is a very impressive 9 x 12 km caldera, a large volcanic crater. You might choose to spend your day on water rather than in the air with a boat trip around Avacha Bay enjoying the mountains, the volcanoes, the geology and the landscape all from the view of the sea. Whichever option you pick you can be assured it will be unparalleled anywhere else, due to the sheer vastness, uniqueness and remoteness of this incredible Peninsula.
Depending on your flight schedule you could explore the local fish market or buy some souvenirs or simple soak in the atmosphere of this city before embarking on your onward journey.
