Begin your incredible tour of Namibia by being picked up at the airport by your guide and transferred to your luxury boutique Guesthouse. Time permitting you will be able to explore Windhoek, the capital city of Namibia, with its cosmopolitan vibe and its colonial legacy.
Starting out early and after your breakfast you will be driven from Windhoek, through the changing landscape and into the famous Namib Desert. This 6 hour journey will see you cross from Central Namibia towards the west of the country and the start of the incredible Namib Desert. Marvel at the myriad changes in the landscape of this beautiful country before reaching the incredible site of the Wolwedans Dune Camp. Arriving at your camp sometime in the afternoon, check in and allow yourself to really wind down your internal clock to match the rhythm and pace of this timeless landscape. Check out the nearby 250m Dune that gives the Camp its name or simply relax and refresh, allowing yourself to fully arrive and unwind. You can also go through all of the activities that are available for you tomorrow and speak with the Camp staff and your guide if you have any questions or queries about the same.
Covering a distance of approximately 120kms throughout the day, whilst picnicking along the way in the most picturesque of spots, Wolwedans scenic drives are the perfect way to see and understand the vastness and varied landscape of the oldest desert in the world. Not only to see the landscape but also to get a feeling of just how the incredible wildlife that call this place their home, have adapted to survive in some of the world's harshest of conditions. These drives are taken on open top 4X4 Safari Vehicles with very knowledgeable, experienced and passionate guides.
The same is true of your option to take an early morning Hot Air Balloon Ride over the waking Namib Desert. Imagine watching the sun rise and change and brighten the landscape of this incredible, intense, harsh and wild landscape. See the day come to life as the sun rises and then upon landing you can start your day with an “Out of Africa” style Champagne Breakfast in the quiet, secluded, spectacular sun soaked sand dunes of the Namib Desert!
Once you have completed any morning activities you have chosen for today, and your breakfast you will check out and drive approximately 2 hours to the Sossusvlei, to Little Kulala Lodge, your home for the next two nights. This is the area of the Namib Desert where you find the famous red Sand Dunes that can tower up to 400m. Imagine the sight, not to mention the photographic opportunities, of the sun reflecting, setting and rising over this incredibly rolling, moving and ever changing landscape. You will arrive at your Lodge in time for lunch and after settling into your room, you will have your first game drive in the afternoon, exploring this incredible landscape and ending in a beautiful, remote, picturesque spot to enjoy a drink and watch the sun go down.
Today’s program is packed full of incredible and unique experiences, beginning with a tour around the Sossusvlei all the way to Dead Vlei. A vlei refers to a shallow pool of water or a salt pan in a low lying area that becomes a marshland during the rainy season. When you put the word Dead before Vlei then you understand some of the geographical history of this area. Learning and understanding how the rolling fog from the nearby Atlantic Ocean, ancient underground water channels and seasonal rains and showers, along with droughts and climate change, have created such an eclectic and incredible landscape from sand dunes to salt pans and dead trees will be a highlight of your trip. You will get to learn all of this from your expert guide as you witness the height and energy of the high red sand dunes and the white salt pans and see for yourself the flora and fauna that manage to survive in this environment. After this tour your next feast will be Sesriem Canyon. This canyon is a natural one that has been formed over the years by the Tsauchab River flowing and eroding the sedimentary rock. You can walk within the canyon and even in January 2021 there was water for the first time in 10 years in the Canyon and people were able to swim! There is also another section of the canyon that actually has a permanent body of water that the animals use to drink from. Imagining a permanent supply of water in such desert conditions is incredible! And your day will then be topped off with another sundowner tour into the wilderness and beauty of the sand dunes.
Today we will leave behind the Sossusvlei and the NamibRand Nature Reserve, flying North to explore the famous Skeleton Coast of Namibia, home to desert adapted Elephants, giraffes, expansive desert, high sand dunes, rocky mountains and unique, distinct, and fascinating cultural groups. On this scenic flight, you will see from up high the reason why this coastline has this particular name - both shipwrecks and whale skeletons can be found aplenty along this stretch. You will arrive at your Lodge in time for lunch and once you have checked in, eaten and relaxed you can then begin exploring in the afternoon.
Today you will have the opportunity for a morning and afternoon game drive and also to meet and interact with both the Himba and the Herero Tribe. The Himba tribe are very well known and distinctive and are also one of the true remaining nomadic tribes on the whole continent of Africa. Your game drives will be in search of the incredible wildlife that have adapted to these desert conditions - elephants, desert Zebras, giraffes, black rhinos , lions and a variety of endemic reptiles. You may also have the opportunity to go out tracking the desert rhino with your guide. A full day that will leave you with a full heart and a buzzing mind as you sit back and relax in your exclusive Valley Camp admiring the stars and enjoying the quiet, expanse of this Desert.
Today we leave behind the Skeleton coast and fly east to the 30,000 hectare Ongava private game reserve which borders right onto Etosha National Park. The Ongava Private Game Reserve has been instrumental in researching, creating and implementing the fundamental concept of ecotourism, especially in areas where the ecosystem is so fragile. This symbiotic relationship that they have established and worked hard to create is what allows you to be in the unique and incredible experience of tracking, sighting and observing both the elusive black and white Rhino’s. There is also an onsite Ongava Research Centre where you can learn and contribute to the ever needed, ever changing process that is conservation. You will arrive in time for lunch and once you’ve taken some rest and established yourself in your new quarters, you can enjoy an afternoon game drive, settling into viewing and experiencing what all this corner of Namibia has to offer.
Today you will begin your adventure after your breakfast with a game drive in Namibia’s premiere National Park - Etosha National Park. Along with the expert guides you will spend the morning watching out for, observing and experiencing the both the incredible landscape of salt pans and perennial springs and the wonderful variety of wildlife such as cheetahs, lions, elephants, giraffes, hyenas and many many more. After your lunch and a rest, your afternoon game drive will take you exploring in the Ongava Game Reserve. Here you can keep an eye out for Black and White Rhino, black faced impala, warthogs, zebras and giraffes amongst many many more. There is also a viewing photographic hide set up on the reserve near the waterhole where you can sit quietly and observe the wildlife coming and going to the waterhole to quench their thirst.
Today again after your breakfast you will repeat the same actions of going on a morning game drive in Etosha and in the afternoon another Game Drive at Ongava but herein lies the wonder and beauty of game drives - nothing ever looks the same. The wildlife in these places are free to roam and that they do. Their schedule is not set to the click of our cameras but to the whims of their fancy and contents of their tummies! Enjoy another day in the glory and majesty of the world's wildlife in this most unique, harsh and incredible of landscapes.
Today after check out you will journey back towards urban life and what’s often referred to as ‘civilization’! You will take a scenic drive of approximately 4 to 5 hours from Etosha all the way back to Windhoek where your driver will drop you wherever is appropriate for your onward journey.
